What this card shows
The Donor hCG positive test rate card shows what share of embryo transfers went on to record a positive hCG test, where hCG is the pregnancy hormone, month by month and split by whether donor oocytes (eggs) or donor sperm were used.
For each month of cycle start, the denominator is every embryo transfer performed in the cycles that started that month, and the numerator is the transfers whose cycle recorded a positive pregnancy test. There are four lines, one per group:
Patient's oocyte and partner's sperm: neither donor oocytes nor donor sperm recorded on the cycle.
Donor oocyte: donor oocytes recorded, but not donor sperm.
Donor sperm: donor sperm recorded, but not donor oocytes.
Donor oocyte and donor sperm: both recorded.
The four groups are mutually exclusive, so every cycle in the window lands in exactly one of them.
Each transfer is counted on its own. A cycle that had two transfers contributes two to the month it started in, not one.
Reading the card
Start with the monthly counts, not the percentages. Each donor group can see only a handful of transfers in a month, so a single outcome moves the line by tens of percentage points. Hover any point to see the transfers and positive tests behind it. Those raw counts are the honest figure; the percentage is only meaningful once you have a reasonable number of transfers underneath it.
For the same reason, read each line over a longer span rather than month to month. A month reading 0% next to a month reading 80% is not a change in outcomes, it is small numbers. Comparing the donor lines against each other in a single month tells you very little.
Two other things to keep in mind:
Recent months typically read low. The pregnancy test result is usually recorded some weeks after the transfer, so the most recent month or two on the card will still be filling in. Treat the last points as provisional rather than as a drop.
Narrowing the dashboard filters makes this worse. Filtering to one clinic, one age band or one BMI band splits an already small denominator further, and the lines get noisier still. If you want to filter, widen the date range at the same time.
The card lives on the Clinical success tab of the Medical director dashboard and responds to the filters at the top:
Date: change the time window. It scopes by cycle start date, and defaults to the past 6 months plus the current month.
Clinic: focus on one or more locations, if your organization has several.
Age at cycle start and BMI: narrow to a patient group.
Where this data comes from
Two things drive this card, and they are recorded in different places.
The pregnancy test result comes from the Outcomes tab of the patient's Cycle page, entered through the Add Outcome menu. Choosing HCG (Blood) or HCG (Urine) opens a short form where the pregnancy test result is set.
The group a transfer falls into comes from how the cycle itself was set up, specifically whether donor oocytes or donor sperm were recorded as the source for that cycle. If no donor source is recorded on the cycle, the cycle is grouped under Patient's oocyte and partner's sperm, so the split on this card is only as good as that record. Where a donor line looks thinner than you would expect, check the cycle setup before reading anything into the rate.
Two limits are worth knowing before you quote a figure from this card:
The pregnancy test is matched to the cycle, not to an individual transfer. Any positive test recorded against the cycle counts, whether or not it was recorded after that particular transfer. In practice this means a cycle with two transfers and one positive test scores both of its transfers as positive, so the rate reads a little higher than a strict transfer by transfer measure would.
A transfer with no pregnancy test result recorded against its cycle counts in the denominator but not the numerator, so it reads the same as a negative test.
