Outstanding tasks

What this card shows

The Outstanding tasks card shows the open tasks assigned to each staff member, with each bar split by how the due date sits relative to today:

  • Overdue: the due date has passed.

  • Due within 7 days: due in the coming week.

  • Later: due further out.

  • No due date: no due date was set.

Only tasks still in the "to do" state are counted. The long Overdue stacks are the ones to clear first.

Reading the card

  • Bars are horizontal, one per staff member, so the longest bar is the largest open workload.

  • Hover any segment to see the exact number of tasks in that band.

  • The card shows the twenty staff members with the most open tasks, so a very large team will not be shown in full.

  • No due date is worth a look of its own. Those tasks can never become overdue, so they tend to sit in a list indefinitely without prompting anyone.

  • Unknown staff means the task is assigned to someone no longer in your staff directory. Those tasks need reassigning, or nobody will pick them up.

  • Tasks assigned to a team rather than to an individual are not shown here.

The card lives on the Nursing & care team dashboard, on the Communication & tasks tab, and responds to the filters at the top:

  • Date: change the time window. It scopes by when the task was created, and defaults to the past 6 months plus the current month. Note that this is creation date, not due date, so narrowing it hides older tasks that may well be the most overdue.

  • Clinic: focus on one or more locations, if your organization has several.

Where this data comes from

Tasks come from the Tasks page, and from the Tasks tab on an individual patient's record. Both the assignee and the due date are set when the task is created, and can be changed later. A task leaves this card when it is moved out of the "to do" state.

Setting a due date and a named assignee at the point of creation is what keeps a task visible here rather than drifting into the No due date or Unknown staff groups.

Opening this card

In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports → Nursing & Care Team → Nursing & care team. Select the Communication & tasks tab. The Outstanding tasks card is on it.
