wawa lets the prescribing clinician (or a clinic admin) void a signed prescription so it can no longer be dispensed, while keeping a full record of it for audit purposes.
Note: Voiding is permanent. There is no "unvoid", if the prescription is still needed, a new one must be issued.
Editing a signed prescription: duplicate, then void
Once a prescription is signed, it can't be edited directly. If you need to change something on it — a dose, a medication, an instruction — don't void it first. Instead:
Open the signed prescription and click Duplicate in the modal footer (next to Void). This immediately creates a new draft copy with the same medications and items, and takes you straight into editing it — no confirmation dialog, and no changes made yet to the original.
Make your edits to the new draft, then send it for signature as usual.
Once the new prescription is signed (or as soon as you're sure it's no longer needed), go back to the original prescription and void it, following the steps below — so it can't be dispensed and doesn't conflict with the replacement.
When can I void a prescription?
You can void a prescription when:
It has been fully signed (draft prescriptions that haven't been sent for signature are deleted instead, not voided)
It has not yet been dispensed
You are either the prescriber who signed it, or a clinic admin
Once voided, the prescription's status changes to Voided and it can no longer be dispensed at the pharmacy.
How to void a prescription from a patient's chart
Open the patient's chart and go to the Prescriptions tab.
Click the row for the signed prescription you want to void. This opens a preview of the prescription alongside its details.
In the footer, click Void.
Confirm the action in the dialog that appears: "Are you sure? Voiding cancels this signed prescription — it can no longer be dispensed. This cannot be undone." Click Void to confirm, or Cancel to back out.
The prescription's status badge updates to Voided, and you'll see a confirmation notice.
Voiding from the Pharmacy tab
You can also void a prescription from the clinic-wide Pharmacy > Prescriptions list, without opening the patient's chart:
Go to Pharmacy > Prescriptions.
Find the signed prescription in the list, then click Void in that row's actions.
Confirm in the same "Are you sure?" dialog described above.
The row updates in place to show the Voided status — no need to reload the page.
What happens after voiding
The prescription cannot be dispensed — pharmacy staff will see it as Voided if they try.
The change is recorded in the patient's activity feed for audit purposes.
No reason or comment is required to void a prescription.
If the patient still needs the medication, issue a new prescription — a voided one cannot be reactivated.
