Logging encounters in the platform allow you to add information about encounters with patients to aid in their treatment journey, as well as billing for their appointments and interactions with the clinic.

Encounter templates can be configured in your clinic settings, under "Encounter templates." Using encounter templates with RCM allows you to pre-add charges with relevant products and their associated codes – these will then be automatically added as items for which to bill when this type of encounter is logged.

Note: when configuring templates, you do not need to add ICD codes to the charges section – this will be added once you use the encounter template.

How to create an encounter for RCM

  1. Visit the patient's profile

  2. Navigate to the "Encounters" tab under 'Patient interactions'

  3. Click "+ Log encounter"

  4. Populate the Overview

    • Include the start and end time

    • Choose who the rendering provider was

    • Indicate the mode of contact

  5. Add Notes

  6. View – and add, if relevant – diagnosis codes

  7. View and edit charges/products if needed

    • Add modifiers

    • Match ICD codes to the relevant products

  8. Select "Complete and charge"

You will then see the encounter billing information under "Charges" on the patient's profile, or the finance section of the platform. Learn more about submitting claims here.
