What this card shows
The Name completeness card shows how much of your patient list has name details recorded, as four percentages: the share of patients with a first name, with a last name, with a middle name, and with a full name meaning both a first and a last name.
It is a data quality check rather than a clinical measure. Use it to confirm that patient names are being captured consistently, which matters for searching for patients, for letters and for anything you send out to patients.
Reading the card
All four figures are percentages of your whole patient list, not counts of patients.
% complete (full name) is the one to watch. It counts patients who have both a first and a last name, which is what most day to day work needs.
A blank name counts the same as a missing one, so a record saved with an empty name field is not counted as having a name.
% middle name normally sits well below the other three, as in the example above. Many patients do not have a middle name or do not give one, so a lower figure here is normal and is not a problem to fix.
There is no date filter. This is a snapshot of your whole patient list as it stands today.
If your clinic's historical records were brought into wawa from another system, these percentages cover those records too. A lower figure often reflects what was held in the previous system rather than how your team records names now.
Where this data comes from
These come from the name fields on each patient's record. Open a patient, go to Patient information, and the First name, Middle name and Last name fields are at the top of the Identity section.
First name is required whenever a patient is created, so almost every record will have one. Last name is not required, which is why the two figures can differ. Filling in a missing name on a patient's record raises these percentages the next time the card is loaded.
Opening this card
In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports and select Patients, then Patient core demographics. The Name completeness card is at the top of the dashboard.
