What this card shows
The New patients by month card shows how many new patient records were added at your clinic in each calendar month. Use it to follow how many new patients you are taking on and to see whether that number is rising, steady, or falling over the year.
A patient counts toward the month their record was created in wawa. Each patient is counted once, in that month only, and never moves to another month afterward.
Reading the card
The card looks back over the current month plus the previous eleven. Months with zero new patients may not show a bar. This window is fixed on the card and is not affected by the dashboard filters.
The most recent month is still in progress, so its figure will keep rising until the month ends. Expect the last point to sit lower than it eventually will, and avoid reading a dip there as a real fall.
Hover over any point to see the exact number of new patients for that month.
If your clinic's historical records were brought into wawa from another system, all of those patients were created on the day of that transfer. That shows up as one unusually tall month, which reflects when the records were loaded rather than when those patients first came to you. Months after the transfer show your genuine new patient numbers.
Where this data comes from
A patient record is created when someone at your clinic adds the patient in wawa. Open Patients from the sidebar and select Create Patient, then fill in the patient's details and save.
Every patient added this way counts toward the month they were added. Nothing else needs to be filled in for a patient to appear on this card, so it reflects your full list of new patients rather than only those who have gone on to treatment.
Opening this card
In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports and select Patients, then Patient overview. The New patients by month card is on this dashboard.
