What this card shows
The Good blastocyst development rate card shows what share of normally fertilized oocytes reached a good-quality blastocyst by Day 5, 6 or 7 of culture, month by month.
Blastocysts are graded on the Gardner scale, which has three parts: how expanded the embryo is, and separate letter grades for the inner cell mass (ICM, the future fetus) and the trophectoderm (TE, the future placenta). Good quality here means grade 3BB or better: an expansion stage of 3 or above, meaning a full blastocyst or further along, with both the ICM and the TE graded A or B.
There are four lines:
Good blastocyst rate: your monthly rate.
Excluding discarded embryos: the same rate with discarded embryos left out.
Competency: the Vienna Consensus competency level, 30% or above.
Benchmark: the Vienna Consensus benchmark, 40% or above.
Excluding discarded embryos is the dotted line, shown for contrast. It answers the same question while leaving out any that the lab later discarded.
The two lines together tell you how much of your result rests on embryos that were discarded afterwards. The headline is the one to read and the one the reference lines apply to, because the Vienna Consensus fixes this denominator at the Day 1 observation, before any disposal decision has been made, and it declines to set benchmarks for measures that depend on what a lab chooses to discard or freeze. The dotted line therefore has no competency or benchmark applied to it.
Reading the card
The denominator is all normally fertilized oocytes, meaning those showing two pronuclei at the Day 1 check. This is the strict Vienna denominator.
The numerator requires all three parts of the Gardner grade to clear the bar. An embryo that is well expanded but has a C-grade trophectoderm does not count.
Embryos that were later discarded still count, in both halves. An embryo that arrested, or reached blastocyst in poor condition, is usually discarded soon afterwards, so leaving those out would remove much of what the card is measuring.
Because the denominator is the full cohort rather than only what was graded, a missing Day 5 to Day 7 grading counts against this rate.
The Competency and Benchmark lines are flat reference lines from the Vienna Consensus, not measurements from your lab.

This is the card that connects lab work to what patients actually get, since a good-quality blastocyst is what a clinic wants to transfer or freeze. Read it next to Blastocyst development rate on the same tab: that card counts every embryo that reached the stage, this one counts the ones that arrived in usable condition. The gap between the two is a quality signal rather than a survival one.
The card lives on the Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs) dashboard, on the Embryo Development tab, and responds to the filters at the top:
Date: change the time window. It scopes by the date of fertilization, and defaults to the past 6 months plus the current month.
Clinic: focus on one or more locations, if your organization has several.
Treatment type, Age at cycle start and BMI: narrow to a subset of cycles.
Where this data comes from
Both halves of this card come from the Culture tab of the patient's Cycle page: the Day 1 observation carries the pronuclei grading that puts an embryo into the cohort, and the Day 5 to Day 7 observation carries the full Gardner grade.
This card needs the complete three-part Gardner grade, not just the expansion number. A grading recorded as expansion only, or recorded using the Development stage option (Very Early or Early) instead of the three Gardner components, cannot be scored as good quality even if the embryo was, so it reads as a miss. Recording all three components on every Day 5 to Day 7 grading is what keeps this rate accurate.

In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports → Laboratory Performance → Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs). Select the Embryo Development tab. The Good blastocyst development rate card is on it.
