What this card shows
The IVF normal (2PN) fertilization rate card shows what share of oocytes fertilized normally in conventional IVF, month by month. It covers conventional IVF only, where oocytes and sperm are placed together in a dish, rather than ICSI where a single sperm is injected.
Normal fertilization is judged at the Day 1 check, roughly 17 hours after insemination, by counting pronuclei (PN). A pronucleus is a visible nucleus in the newly fertilized oocyte, and two of them, 2PN, is the normal result: one from the oocyte and one from the sperm.
There are four lines:
Normal fertilization rate: your monthly rate, counting every oocyte placed in the dish.
Excluding discarded oocytes: the same rate with discarded oocytes left out.
Competency: the Vienna Consensus competency level, 60% or above.
Benchmark: the Vienna Consensus benchmark, 75% or above.
Excluding discarded oocytes is the dotted line, shown for contrast. It answers the same question while leaving out any oocyte the lab later discarded.
The two lines together tell you how much of your result rests on oocytes that were discarded afterwards. The headline is the one to read and the one the reference lines apply to, because the Vienna Consensus fixes this denominator at the Day 1 observation, before any disposal decision has been made, and it declines to set benchmarks for measures that depend on what a lab chooses to discard or freeze. The dotted line therefore has no competency or benchmark applied to it.
Reading the card
The denominator is every oocyte placed in the IVF dish for the cycle. The numerator is those graded 2PN at the Day 1 check.
Oocytes that were later discarded still count, on both sides of the rate. That matters here: an oocyte that failed to fertilize is usually discarded soon afterwards, so leaving those out would remove much of what this card exists to measure and would read higher than your lab's real fertilization rate.
The Competency and Benchmark lines are flat reference lines from the Vienna Consensus, not measurements from your lab.

The strict Vienna definition of normal fertilization also requires two polar bodies to be visible alongside the two pronuclei. Polar body counts are not reliably recorded, so this card uses the two-pronuclei observation on its own. That makes the rate read very slightly high compared with a strict count.
Only oocytes that were actually graded on Day 1 can be counted as normal. Where the Day 1 check goes unrecorded, this rate reads low for a recording reason rather than a clinical one. The Day 1 grading coverage gap card on the same tab tells you how much of that is happening.
The card lives on the Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs) dashboard, on the Fertilization Performance tab, and responds to the filters at the top:
Date: change the time window. It scopes by the date of fertilization, and defaults to the past 6 months plus the current month.
Clinic: focus on one or more locations, if your organization has several.
Treatment type, Age at cycle start and BMI: narrow to a subset of cycles.

Where this data comes from
Both halves of this card come from the Culture tab of the patient's Cycle page: the insemination is recorded as a fertilization event, and the Day 1 observation on each oocyte carries the pronuclei grading.
Recording the Day 1 check on every inseminated oocyte, including the ones that did not fertilize, is what makes this rate accurate.
Opening this card
In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports → Laboratory Performance → Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs). Select the Fertilization Performance tab. The IVF normal (2PN) fertilization rate card is on it.
