What this card shows
The Day 1 grading coverage gap card is a completeness check rather than a clinical result. It shows what share of inseminated oocytes have no recorded grading at the Day 1 fertilization check, month by month.
There are three series:
% ungraded (Day 1): the share with nothing recorded, read against the left-hand axis.
Excluding discarded oocytes: the same share with discarded oocytes left out.
Ungraded oocytes (count): how many oocytes that is, as a grey dashed line read against the right-hand axis.
A healthy lab sits near zero here. This is the one card on the dashboard where a flat line along the bottom is exactly what you want to see.
Excluding discarded oocytes is the dotted line, shown for contrast. It answers the same question while leaving out any oocyte the lab later discarded.
This card is the one place on the tab where that dotted line reads higher than the headline rather than lower, and the reason is worth knowing: discarded oocytes turn out to be graded more reliably than the ones a lab keeps. Leaving them out therefore removes better-recorded oocytes from the denominator and makes the gap look bigger. Since a lower line is better here, the dotted line is the pessimistic one on this card. Read the headline: it is the honest measure of how much of your Day 1 recording is missing.
Reading the card
The denominator is every oocyte linked to an insemination in that month. The numerator is the ones with no grading recorded in the Day 1 window, which runs from roughly 12 to 30 hours after insemination.
A grading recorded outside that window does not count. If your lab checks earlier or later than most, that can show up here as an apparent gap.

Read the percentage and the count together. A single ungraded oocyte in a quiet month is a large percentage and a small problem; a steady 5% across a busy month is a lot of missing observations.
Why this card matters for the rest of the dashboard. Every fertilization and pronuclei measurement on this tab can only score oocytes that were actually graded, but an ungraded oocyte still counts in those cards' denominators. It can never appear in a numerator, so a rising line here pushes the other rates down: a fertilization rate can look like it is falling when what is really falling is recording completeness. Check this card before drawing a conclusion from a change in IVF normal (2PN) fertilization rate, ICSI normal fertilization rate, or any of the 1PN cards.
Failed fertilization rate (IVF) is the one exception. It works cycle by cycle, and a cycle with no gradings at all is dropped from both sides rather than counted as a failure.
The card lives on the Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs) dashboard, on the Fertilization Performance tab, and responds to the filters at the top:
Date: change the time window. It scopes by the date of insemination, and defaults to the past 6 months plus the current month.
Clinic: focus on one or more locations, if your organization has several.
Treatment type, Age at cycle start and BMI: narrow to a subset of cycles.
Where this data comes from
The Day 1 observation is recorded on each oocyte from the Culture tab of the patient's Cycle page, the same place the pronuclei grading is entered. This card counts the oocytes where that step is missing.
If this card is showing a gap, the fix is entirely in recording practice: grade every inseminated oocyte at the Day 1 check, and record it within the check window, even when the observation is that nothing happened.
Opening this card
In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports → Laboratory Performance → Laboratory performance (Vienna consensus KPIs). Select the Fertilization Performance tab. The Day 1 grading coverage gap card is on it.
