How do I match a donor to a recipient patient?

You can match donors to their recipient patients within the wawa platform. Matching a donor takes three steps: linking the donor to the recipient, reserving the donor's samples, and adding the donor to the recipient's cycle.

Note: wawa will not let you thaw donor material for treatment until steps 1 and 2 are complete.

1. How to link a donor to a recipient

  1. Visit the Cryostorage tab of the platform and navigate to "Donors"

  2. Find and open the relevant donor

  3. Click on the "Actions" dropdown at the top of the donor page

  4. Click "Link Donor/Recipient"

  5. Type in the name/patient number of the recipient and click "Save"

After doing so, you will see the recipient on the donor's "Allocations" tab. You can also link a donor from the recipient's profile → "Relationships" tab → "Add donor".

You only need to do this once.

2. How to reserve the donor's samples

  1. Visit the Cryostorage tab and navigate to the Samples tab

  2. Find the donor's sample, then the relevant device

  3. To the right of the device, click on the "Actions" dropdown and click "Reserve" (or "Nominate" to choose a specific cycle)

  4. Select the recipient and click "Save"

  5. The reservation will show as "Pending". Click "Approve" to confirm it

Only recipients who are linked to the donor will appear in the list.

3. How to add the donor to the recipient's cycle

  1. Visit the recipient's profile → Cycle page → "Gametes"

  2. Use the "+ Add donor" or "+ Add known donor" button to select the donor

  3. Click "Thaw oocytes" or "Thaw sample" to thaw the donor material for this cycle

If you nominated the sample in step 2, the donor will already appear on the Gametes page.
