What this card shows
The Patient age distribution card groups your patients into age bands and shows how many fall into each one, as a ring chart. Where the Average patient age card gives you one number, this card shows the spread behind it, so you can see whether your patients cluster in one age group or are spread widely.
The bands are: under 25, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, and 45 and over - bands are only present if there are patients in the band, the graph will never show an 'empty' band.
Reading the card
Each segment is labeled with the share of patients in that band, and the total in the middle is the number of patients included.
Hover over a segment to see the exact patient count for that band.
Ages are calculated from each patient's date of birth against today's date, so a patient moves into the next band on their birthday.
Only patients with a date of birth recorded appear here. If your total looks lower than your full patient list, check the Date of birth - % populated card to see how much of your list has a date of birth.
There is no date filter. This is a snapshot of your patient list as it stands today.
Where this data comes from
The bands are worked out from the Birth date field on each patient's record. Open a patient, go to Patient information, and Birth date sits in the Identity section near the top.
Birth date is required when a patient is first created, so most records will have one. Correcting a date of birth moves that patient into the right band the next time the card is loaded.
Opening this card
In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports and select Patients, then Patient overview. The Patient age distribution card is on this dashboard, and a copy also appears on the Patient core demographics dashboard.
