Biopsy request test types

What this card shows

The Biopsy request test types card lists one row for every genetic test ordered on a biopsy request. It is the source data behind the two request charts above it.

A request can carry more than one test, and it appears once for each. A request sent for both PGT-A and PGT-M shows up as two rows sharing a request date, a patient and a request ID. That is why the same patient can repeat on consecutive rows, and it is why these rows are kept apart from the per-embryo rows on the PGT outcomes tab.

A request is also not a single biopsy. One request covers every embryo biopsied from a cycle, so the embryo-level results live on the PGT outcomes tab instead. The Embryos on this request column here tells you how many embryos each request covered.

Each row carries:

  • Biopsy request date, Patient and Patient registration number.

  • Test type: the one test this row is about.

  • Embryologist (biopsy), Clinic (patient's cycle location) and Destination lab.

  • Embryos on this request.

  • The Cycle ID and Biopsy request ID you can trace a row back by.

Reading the card

  • PGT-A screens for an abnormal number of chromosomes. PGT-M screens for a specific inherited condition. PGT-SR screens for a structural rearrangement of the chromosomes. Preimplantation genetic testing is what the PGT prefix stands for in all three.

  • Other test types appear under their own names: mtDNA for mitochondrial DNA, HLA for tissue matching, PNC, and niPGT for non-invasive testing. Anything else recorded is shown as Other.

  • Because a multi-test request is listed once per test, counting rows here gives you tests ordered, not requests raised. The Biopsy requests by month chart above it counts requests; the Test types requested by month chart counts tests. Both are correct, and they are meant to differ.

  • The table scrolls sideways for the columns past the first few, and the row count sits at the bottom right. Use the download option on the card to take the whole set into a spreadsheet.

The card sits on the PGT KPIs dashboard, on the Procedure mix tab, and responds to the biopsy filters at the top:

  • Biopsy date: the time window. It scopes by the date the request was raised, and starts on the past 6 months plus the current month.

  • Embryologist (biopsy): narrow to one practitioner's requests.

  • Destination lab: the genetics laboratory the request was sent to for analysis. Laboratories do not all apply the same result definitions, so pick one to compare like with like; requests migrated from a previous system mostly carry no laboratory and drop out when you do.

  • Test types: keep only requests sent for a particular test.

  • Clinic (patient's cycle location): focus on one or more of your locations.

Two things worth knowing about how the rows are dated and attributed:

  • Everything here is dated by the date the request was raised, never the date a result came back. wawa does not record when a result arrived.

  • Clinic (patient's cycle location) is the clinic the patient's cycle belongs to, not the Destination lab, which is the genetics laboratory the request was sent to.

Requests migrated from a previous system carry no embryologist and show as Not recorded.

Where this data comes from

A request is raised from the Culture tab of the patient's Cycle page: select the embryos you are sending and choose Biopsy. The number of embryos you select becomes the Embryos on this request figure.

The tests themselves are set on the request, in the Test types field, which takes as many as the request needs. The request date, the destination laboratory and the embryologist sit alongside it.

Opening this card

In wawa, open Insights from the sidebar, then go to Standard Reports → Laboratory Performance - Biopsies/PGT → PGT KPIs. Select the Procedure mix tab. The Biopsy request test types table is at the bottom right of it.
